Internship Mechanical/Mechatronic Test Engineer

ThrustMe is a fast-growing space actor founded in 2017 with the mission to enable sustainable use of space by bringing complete in-orbit mobility to satellites of any size. We provide deeply-integrated and smart propulsion systems designed for the industrialised satellite era. ThrustMe made history in 2020 with the world’s first in-orbit demonstrations of an iodine-fueled electric propulsion system - a dream come true for the space industry since the 60s.

Our clients in Europe, US, and Asia manufacture and operates satellites in large constellations for real-time earth observation and connectivity. To meet our clients’ needs, we are now industrialising our mainstream products and setting up a production line with a capacity of hundreds of systems per year. The production line will combine a classical space approach with lean manufacturing from the automotive and robotics industries.

The candidate will take part in the conception, characterization, and setup processes related to the mechanical testing of spacecraft propulsion systems. Your contributions will directly impact the development of cutting-edge propulsion systems by ThrustMe.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth characterizations and performance evaluations of the mechanical test benchs under various conditions, ensuring precision and accuracy.
  • Analyse test data, identify patterns and propose improvements to optimize the mechanical test benchs’ functionality and reliability.
  • Assist in designing, prototyping, and implementing new testing methodologies to simulate real-world scenarios accurately.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of the upgraded test bench into our product development processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation outlining the test procedures, results, and recommendations. 

    Skills required and qualification
  • Undergoing bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Studies, or a related field.
  • Some experience with testing, instrumentation, and data analysis as well as electronics prototyping is an asset.
  • Knowledge of structural dynamics is desired.
  • Willing to learn and ready to get out of his/her comfort zone with a positive “can do” attitude.
  • Ready to work within an international and multidisciplinary team.
  • Communicates in English fluently. French is a plus.
